In Praise of John Stuart Mill

On the 17th May 2016, Sean Gabb, Director of the Libertarian Alliance, gave a lecture in London on John Stuart Mill. Topics covered: defence of freedom of speech; dangers of government intervention in society; no “tyranny of the majority;” problems with “harm principle;” in praise of aristocratic government.

  1. Well, the first 8 minutes of Sean’s speech were excellent, but it’s already after midnight.

I call, yet again, for transcripts of such speeches. I can read in 5 minutes or less what takes an hour or more to say. And I can easily go back and review the transcript, too.

  2. Yawn. A stale pale male who’s only important to other stale pale males. No wonder he’s read so avidly by the likes of Lord Feldman, Robert Halfon and Danny Finkelstein. Fortunately, they don’t have any ability to put Mill’s principles into action.
