Why Trump (and why not Clinton)?

On the evening of 8 November 2016, Keir Martland appeared on Cam FM to discuss his support for Donald J. Trump as the lesser of two evils. The entire Cam FM (97.2) presidential election all-night show can be listened to here.

  1. I don’t understand why the hosts of that show think that listeners might be offended by anything Keir Martland has to say or why such a warning was necessary. It sounds like we now have idiots studying at our most elite institution. It’s quite worrying that that sort of person can be admitted to Cambridge.

    Keir is quite right that marriage laws are not the business of the federal government in the U.S. The interviewer mentions the Tenth Amendment, but that was of no relevance to the Obergefell ruling, which did not even engage it; and anyway the Tenth Amendment does not state, as the interviewer claims “…that it is the business of the federal government to impose federal law on the states”. The Tenth Amendment simply expounds on Article 1 of the Constitution, making clear that powers not delegated to, or prohibited from, the federal level are reserved to the states. The Obergefell ruling was based on an interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment (the equal protection clause).
